Spicy Après-Ski Eats at Chili’s

Robyn Moore March 14, 2016

Chili’s may not be in the heart of town.

It’s located in the Fox Hotel in Banff Avenue’s accommodation district. This Mexican restaurant offers a comfortable dining experience and delicious eats – exactly what I was craving after a busy Saturday at the ski hill.

My dining companions and I were seated upon arrival, and made the quick decision to order bottomless Tostada chips. Soon we were greeted with the warm, extra-thin corn tostada chips made fresh daily and served with housemade salsa. We also ordered a side of fresh guacamole, as not to disappoint our grumbling stomachs.

We all selected our meals quickly. The large menu provides so much variety that we had no trouble ordering different dishes.

I chose the Mix & Match Fajitas, signature sizzling fajitas served with sliced bell peppers, caramelized onions and warm flour tortillas. I opted for grilled chicken and steak, but will have to return to try the other options – pork carnitas and seared shrimp.

As for the rest of my party, one diner ordered an Oldtimer with Cheese (a classic burger), hand seasoned and seared to perfection. This burger is topped with housemade garlic dill pickles, lettuce, tomato, sliced red onions and mustard.

Another ordered the Spicy Shrimp Tacos. I have to say, these caught my eye – three tacos with spicy chile-lime shrimp topped with cilantro slaw, pico de gallo, sliced avocado and queso fresco wrapped in flour tortillas. I unfortunately couldn’t weasel myself a bite this time – but I did get rave reviews.

Last was an order of Chicken Cajun Pasta. The sliced chicken breast was smothered in Alfredo sauce with a hint of Cajun spice, and topped with grated Parmesan, diced tomatoes and chopped green onions.

We all agreed Chili’s would become a regular meet up spot, if for nothing else but those delicious crispy tostada chips (and great company doesn’t hurt)!
