Elevated Dining at Whitehorn Bistro

Lake Louise is a hiker’s paradise in summer. While I hike elsewhere in the Canadian Rockies, I always find the mountains most impressive here.

After your adventures, refuel with a meal at Whitehorn Bistro at the Lake Louise Ski Resort.

Located at 6,700 ft (2,042 m) above sea level, Whitehorn Bistro offers full service gourmet dining.

The housemade Signature Whitehorn Burger is a fan favourite at the bistro, located at the top of the ski resort’s Summer Sightseeing Gondola. The burger features aged cheddar and thick cut smoky bacon, and pairs perfectly with a beer on the patio, which boasts spectacular views.

Located at 6,700 ft (2,042 m) above sea level, Whitehorn Bistro offers full service gourmet dining. While you dine, admire Mount Temple (the highest in the Lake Louise area), the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and its namesake—an aquamarine lake backdropped by Victoria Glacier.

In summer, guests ride the gondola or chairlift to the restaurant, and in winter they ride the chairlift and ski down (there’s also an ice bar on the patio in winter).

Favourite menu items at Whitehorn Bistro include cheese fondue, seafood chowder, the Rocky Mountain game platter and the housemade bison burger.

On this particular visit, I opted the seafood risotto on a recommendation. The portion was generous, and it was flavourful, creamy and delicious.

The risotto had all my favourite seafood—shrimp, seared scallops, lobster, clams and mussels. It also had red pepper peas, fontina and Parmesan cheese and roasted tomato ragout.

I opted for a beer this meal, but the dish would pair great with wine as well.

My dining companion Alison had the soup of the day, which had a delicious curry flavour and a unique presentation. Another favourite item of hers is the seared ahi tuna salad, an Asian-style salad with roasted pears and sesame-soy vinaigrette. It’s light, but has lots of flavour. It’d be a great choice if you’re heading back onto the trail or the slopes.

The cuisine at Whitehorn Bistro has been elevated by the Lake Louise Ski Resort’s new chef, Scott Green, from Las Vegas.

Scott’s specialty is in menu development. The ski resort has amazing terrain, so Scott was tasked with taking the food and beverage experience to that level.

Whitehorn Bistro is also adjacent to the ski resort’s wildlife interpretative centre, which offers free talks and hikes on the mountain. You can also sign up for an interpretive walk with a knowledgeable guide.
